Why insure your camera equipment?
A working camera setup adds up quickly. A body, two or three lenses and the accessories around them can cost more to replace than almost anything else you carry. And unlike most valuables, photography kit is used outdoors, handed between people and moved from job to job, which is exactly when theft and accidental damage happen.
Specialist photography insurance is designed for equipment that leaves the house: it covers your kit on the move, in a locked vehicle, on loan to friends and family and while travelling abroad, so a stolen bag or a dropped lens is a claim rather than a bill. Am I eligible for the free cover?
If you bought your kit from HDEW in the last 10 days, yes. The free cover is part of the HDEW and Collective partnership and is designed for brand-new purchases, so it has to be activated within 10 days of buying or receiving your item.
If your receipt is older than that, the free cover isn't available, but you can still get a full quote for kit of any age.
What happens at the end of the 30 days?
Your free cover ends. You can take out a full policy at any point if you'd like to stay covered, with the option to pay annually or monthly.
How do I make a claim?
Claims are handled by our dedicated UK-based team and can be submitted at collectiveinsurance.co.uk/claims. When a claim is accepted, payment is made within five working days.
What is photography insurance?

Yes. Theft is covered at home and on the move under both the free cover and a full policy, including items kept out of sight in a locked vehicle.
Is my photography equipment covered away from home?
Yes. At home and on the move, with worldwide cover for up to 30 days while travelling abroad. On a full policy you can extend worldwide cover to 365 days.
